Matriarchy Rules

The world is in an enormous period of change. Knowledge and technological advances are happening at an exponential rates. In the USA, the first person of color has been elected President. Most of these changes seem to be for the good. But I noticed that during the 2008 election that the media asked questions about women candidates that they did not ask about male candidates.

I have been working out the different ways men and women view the world and utilize power since I was 10 years old. When I was 10, I read about how the Taliban persecuted women for going outside, learning how to read and write, and all of the other discriminatory aspects of their feudal outlook on women. My Dad tells me that I predicted something along the lines of this:
"Those Taliban in Afghanistan are evil, and we'll have to deal with them someday." This was in 1997 and the someday was 09/11/2001. As I write, the conflict against the Taliban goes on.

I am an aspiring writer working on a degree in Spanish. I have been painfully aware of the different expectations American society has for boys and girls since grade school. As a writer I barely survived going through the public school system where are jocks are praised endlessly while academic creativity is barely tolerated and the system is obsessed with money management. I hope this blog with help myself and others examine how gender and gender stereotypes shape the way the world is run and how we perceive it. I do not want this blog to become a place where either sex is bashed, instead I want us to explore gender differences and their effect on societies,
